I know I know… It’s hard to believe that we are now 60 days into a new year! Truly time waits for no one. I can not believe today is March 1st.
At the start of 2017 I was determined to create different outcomes in many areas of my life. Last year was one of those years I found taxing emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. And let’s not even talk about the financial goals I have for 2017! (My motto – Go hard or go home!) But I knew if I was going to create different outcomes, I would have to do some things different…drastically different.
This is what caused me in January to write The First 90 Days article, one of our most popular articles. This tells me that I am not the only one wanting to create some different outcomes in 2017. In this article I shared how the book “The First 90 Days: Critical Success Strategies for New Leaders at All Levels” maps out success strategies for the first 90 days of a new role. So I challenged you to be intentional, go hard, and be radically consistent in the first 90 days of the new year.
I can honestly say that my life is now different as a result of how I started the year. I have spent the past 60 days doing 3 things that have changed my physical and emotional health, as well as positioned my business for a record breaking year in 2017. Here’s what I’ve done and continue to do:
Get quiet – Instead of always rushing into the year with a long list of resolutions and goals, I spent the first 40 days simply getting quiet and being prayerful.
Working out – On January 11th, I started a 100 Day Workout Challenge that has been so rejuvenating. It’s easy for me to solely focus on work. But I knew in order for me to get consistent in this area of my life, I had to accept the challenge. Day 60 of the challenge is just around the corner!!
Practice gratitude – Sometimes as an overachiever and relentless goal setter, wins are not celebrated enough. You are on to the next thing and can only see the goals you haven’t met. This vicious cycle can quickly lead to discontentment. But I’ve started intentionally practicing gratitude in and for all things. As a result, I’ve become so much more content with every win, big or small.
So how’s it going for you? If you are like most, the past 60 days have been filled with lots of plans, starts and stops and even some “almost made it”. But before you settle into calling 2017 just another average year, don’t throw in the towel. You have 30 days to restart before this first quarter is over.
Maybe you don’t need a 100 day workout challenge or even 40 days of being still. But what I do know is that we all need something that will cause a shift in our behavior. Here are a few areas where you can have relentless focus over the next 30 days and beyond to propel you to the place you most desire in 2017:
Focus on your consistency:
Consistency is defined as “the agreement or harmony of parts or features to one another or a whole”. This means after you have identified your career, business and life goals you need to be in agreement and in harmony with those goals if you are to reach them. Remember, success doesn’t happen by just working hard just once, it takes working hard consistently. What are you currently working on consistently?
Focus on your personal growth:
What’s your capacity for personal growth? The Law of the Lid by John Maxwell teaches us that a person’s leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness. Therefore, your ability will only grow when you grow. Until you are willing to grow beyond where you currently are, you will never move beyond your current level. What steps are you taking to grow in your life, career and business?
Focus on your next level plan:
“An idea without a plan is just a dream.” We’ve all heard that before and know it’s true. So what are your next level plans? What are you doing to make them more than just a dream? What steps do you plan to take before this first quarter is out?
If you’re first 60 days have been off to a great start make sure you pause and celebrate. If it hasn’t, it’s not too late to hit the reset button on your first 90 days. You can always restart and don’t have to wait until the end of the year. In doing so, you recognize that you want more; you want to show up differently, and you are ready to do the things you’ve been talking about for far too long. It’s time for you to be your most authentic and courageous self. Let’s get started!
